Reportedly, making Victoria cost a bloody fortune and every penny could be seen on the screen at it’s January 15th premiere on PBS. The sets are primarily stand-in castles and manor houses in Yorkshire as opposed to Kensington and Buckingham Palaces, but they are lush and lovely. The British scenery does its part too.
If you’ve read the history or seen The Young Victoria, you know the basic concept: she’s 18 when she becomes queen, nearly everyone around her is attempting to manipulate her, she isn’t super great at being queen right off the bat. And while I enjoyed the beautiful debut, it also isn’t perfection from the get go, but has promise to be one of the greats.
Really, really short review: Worth watching if only for the sets, costumes and manners.
