Feud: Bette and Joan is the “true” story of the famous clash between Hollywood stars Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange) and Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) centered around their filming of cult horror classic Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? Bought to us by the very busy Ryan Murphy coming off his acclaimed The People v. O. J Simpson, it’s also a tale of Hollywood’s throwaway approach to women of a certain age.
Feud is a campy wander down memory lane and a perfect visual reflection of Mad Men-era 1960s where Hollywood heaved its last golden age breaths. Seriously worth watching even if you only love the look of that time and place. Do you need to know all the details of the battle 30-year feud between these women to appreciate Feud? No. Do you need to have seen Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? No. Should you skip Feud? Definitely no.
Really, really short review: just the right kind of campy trash especially if you love old Hollywood mythology
