truTV is adding to its stable of scripted series with the addition of I’m Sorry, a comedy from Andrea Savage (Veep) and
a parade of producers including Will Ferrell and Andy Samberg. I got a preview of the first episode (10 in all) of the half-hour series where Andrea plays Andrea, a neurotic wife/mom/writer with a precocious daughter (Olive Petrucci) and more straitlaced husband portrayed by the adorable Tom Everett Scott.
As we meet the family, wanting-to-be-honest Andrea is trying to explain to her small daughter (over dinner out) how a baby can come out of a woman’s body when it just doesn’t seem like it could possibly fit. We’ve all had the same questions at some point, am I right? Anyway, the reality doesn’t always make sense to the under six set so more explanation is required much to the chagrin of their fellow diners. Awkward situations and humor is the name of the game for I’m Sorry and it does entertain. It’s also a pleasant glimpse into a long-forged, amiable relationship between a couple of equals (not the brilliant wife and dopey husband).
Really, really short review: Sorry not sorry, I’m Sorry. I’ll be looking for episode 2.
I’m Sorry debuts on truTV on July 12.
